OntarioVirtual Pharmacist

Accessibility

Built to be usable by everyone.

Version 1.0 · published April 2026

Our commitment

Ontario Virtual Pharmacist is committed to providing a digital service that is accessible to people with disabilities, in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), 2005, and Ontario Regulation 191/11 (the Integrated Accessibility Standards). We aim to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

What this means in practice

  • All interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields) are reachable and operable with a keyboard alone.
  • A "Skip to main content" link appears on every page when you press Tab — letting screen-reader and keyboard users bypass navigation.
  • Form fields used in the intake wizard have visible labels, accessible names, and descriptive error messages.
  • Body text targets a minimum of 16 px and supports browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or function.
  • Colour contrast for body text and interactive elements is checked against WCAG 2.1 AA (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text and UI components).
  • Photos uploaded by patients during intake are reviewed by the pharmacist directly — the system does not rely on visual content from the patient to make routing decisions.
  • An alternative to the online wizard is available: call your assigned participating pharmacy directly (see the partner directory) and the pharmacist can collect your intake by phone.

Known limitations

We test the site against current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, with VoiceOver (macOS/iOS) and NVDA (Windows). Some third-party embedded components — Vercel Blob uploads, Twilio SMS links — may have accessibility gaps outside our direct control. If you encounter one, please tell us so we can route around it or work with the vendor.

Feedback & complaints

If you encounter an accessibility barrier, or want to request information in an alternative format (large print, plain text, audio, braille), please contact us through our contact page. We respond within 10 business days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may also contact the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario.

Multi-year plan

As required by AODA Integrated Accessibility Standards, we maintain a multi-year accessibility plan covering procurement, training, information, and communications. The plan is reviewed annually and available on request through our contact page.
